New York Undercover - You Get No Respect

Here's Season 1, Episode 17 of 90's popular police drama New York Undercover. Starring Malik Yoba as Det. J.C. Williams & Michael DeLorenzo as Det. Eddie Torres, NYU is notable for being the first police drama on American television to feature two people of color in the starring roles. Det. Torres  and Williams are two undercover detectives in New York City's 4th Precinct who are assigned to investigate various crimes and gang-related cases. The program is also known for its hip-hop oriented targeted audience as it normally would feature a hip-hop soundtrack.

Aired on February 9, 1995, "You Get No Respect" focuses on the murder of a rapper killed at his group's show, when after all, his partner might be behind the murder. This episode is mainly known for its major hip-hop appearances of Sticky Fingaz, Treach, Notorious Big, MC Lyte, Yo-Yo, Doctor Dre & Ed Lover. Notorious Big performs his 1994 hit "Juicy" at the end of the episode. The episode also features a new unheard track from Sticky Fingaz(as Khalil) titled "You Get No Respect". It's played throughout the episode but it hasn't been released anywhere else. I'd like to hear a full version at it sounds like a track that could have been on "All We Got Is Us". I love the part when when Sticky is rhyming!

Tim Dog on Yo! MTV Raps

Tim Dog, a Bronx emcee, wasn't too happy when the West Coast went popular with artists such as NWA, DJ Quik, and Compton's Most Wanted. His first album "Penicillin On Wax", one of the hardest album ever released, contained tracks like "Fuck Compton," "Step To Me," and a few skits dissing Compton and their artists.

One day on Yo MTV Raps, Tim Dog was invited to perform his second single "Step To Me"; but Tim Dog didn't care and started to diss everybody before performing. Ed Lover was going to introduce the next video which happened to be NWA but Tim Dog took the mic and he introduced it himself. You can probably figure out what he did... Finally, he performed "Step To Me" which was as hard as "Fuck Compton". You'll never see something like that on TV ever again.

Last Episode of Yo! MTV Raps

I'm sure everybody has seen this classic freestyle session at least once. The freestyle was cut into two parts. The first part had Rakim, Krs One, Erick Sermon, Chubb Rock, and MC Serch. After the commercial, they came back with Redman, Method Man, Large Pro, Special Ed, and Craig Mack. You can also see Rampage the Last Boy Scout in the crowd; I don't know why he didn't appear on the freestyle. Dj Skribble was on the turntables. They rhymed over the instrumentals of It's My Thing, Mad Izm, and Real Hip Hop(Pete Rock Remix). I've always loved it when Erick Sermon is rapping and the beat switches to "Real Hip Hop".

"All You Wack Emcees, You're Fakin' the Funk!"

Fakin' the Funk by Main Source has to be one of my favorite track of all time. Large Pro and Neek The Exotic went crazy on the track!! But nothing is better than the live performance they did on Yo MTV Raps! Even Ed Lover went and started to diss all the wack mc's from that time. He disses Young MC, Gerrardo, and Vanilla Ice while Large Pro gives shoutouts to Kool G Rap, and Akinyele + Doctor Dre shouts Pete Rock & Cl Smooth. It's definately the best live performance I've ever seen.

Also don't forget to peep the New Large Pro "Main Source". Go Buy It!! Real Hip Hop
