Kev Brown Live Beat @Fat Beats LA 1.03.10

Kev Brown had an In-Store last Sunday at Fat Beats LA promoting his Random Joints album. He brought his MPC with him inside and decided to make a beat. Kev just picked this random record that he had never heard of. He quickly went through the record, I remember him saying something like "this sounds country", but of course he found something and then started to chop the samples. He finished the beat in about an 1 hour and 30 minutes. After that he let people rhyme to it to close it out. It was amazing! I tried my best to edit the footage I recorded to make it under 10 minutes. Hope you enjoy it!

Universal Beats 1990-2001

Dope production is not limited to any one area as these compilations show. Yes production styles change from region to region but an ear for music is something anyone can appreciate, regardless of where they're from. I had been thinking about instrumentals after I put together a mostly east coast break beats compilation sometime last winter. Here is a link and the tracklist to that one.

mostly east coast breakbeats--

My Favorite Things

my favorite things

Beats are very important. obviously, i'm biased but for every jaw dropping verse i've heard, there is an equally mind blowing beat. whenever i've had to do press i often have been asked "who are your influences?" while this is the gayest question anyone could ask, it's a valid enough question. my answer is never one name, cause in all honesty, there isn't one producer that i've modeled myself after. the answer is more an era. luckily for me, this blog is pretty much all about that era. so, here's two compilations of beats I love. you'll noticed i've omitted many of the best producers. this is more cause i wouldn't know where to begin with their vast catalogues. so no disrespect to primo, showbiz, diamond d, large professor and dr dre (who are all pretty much my idols) but i wanted to go in a little bit of a different direction with these mixes. enjoy.
