Organized Konfusion & O.C. Promos & Demos

(Organized in Japan circa 1995, photo courtesy of D.I.T.C. affiliate Marquee.)

Roy Johnson has been trying to track down a complete copy of this ’91 / ’92 era O.C. demo called I Kick a Rhyme for the Record for years now. After aleph had posted these:

Organized Konfusion – Why [Buckwild Original Mix] (1994?)

“Premiered on KCR sometime before Stress dropped.”

O.C. & MC SerchWKCR & Awesome 2 Promos (1994)

Page the Hand Grenade ft. O.C. – Untitled Demo (1994?)

Roy thought to ask aleph directly, who responded that he thought he had it “on a tape of a Riz / Eclipse show” and a couple days later a full version of the track was here:

O.C. – I Kick a Rhyme for the Record (1992?)

Props to aleph, Marquee and Roy Johnson.

Inspectah Deck - Let Me At Them (Demo Piano Version)

I first had this taped off the radio about 15 years ago, either from a WNWK or WKCR broadcast. I'm guessing around 1994
or 1995 was the time frame, being that the official soundtrack version on "Tales From The Hood" didn't drop until a good while after I first heard this. The one main difference on this demo is the piano sample that was curiously taken out of the soundtrack version. Hearing the demo first, every time I would hear the other version, it was like I was waiting for those pianos to drop in the mix. It got to be frustrating to even listen to this piano-less shell of a song. I can almost guarantee that after hearing this demo, you will not want to ever hear the official release again, well almost. The sound quality on the demo is much inferior to the other one. The reason for the pianos getting dissed would probably be due to sample clearance problems, but I guess only Deck knows for sure since he did the beat. All that is definite is that whether or not you found the version of this song you already knew to be memorable, it will be now. Sure the rest of the elements of the beat are all great on this but the pianos really are just that crucial to the illness of "Let Me At 'Em". They give it an added raw Wu sound, with the menacing darkness that would have fit right in a ghetto horror flick.

Let Me At Them (Demo Piano Version)

Let Me At Them (Soundtrack Version, No Pianos)

Download the demo and the other version both here.

Click on the cover to pick up the entire Tales From The Hood Soundtrack(at 320kbps) from our friends over at "Hq Hip Hop".

Thanks and peace to JR from the "Crates Of JR" blog for ripping this personally sought after demo from one of his old WBAI tapes, off the Underground Railroad. The show still broadcasts and even has a chat room/podcast thing going on every Saturday night at midnight. You can find that by clicking here at the broadcast time and then clicking the "Live Broadcast" button on the right. Also, the host for many years now, is this guy Jay Smooth from the Ill Doctrine hip hop video blog. Love it or hate it, you can't really dismiss it, the guy has valid points on many arguments.

Constant Deviants/Global Platoon/Sparrow: 90's Vaults Excavated

You already know how much unreleased 90's material has been put out on vinyl in the last couple of years. Some great stuff, some just okay. Some worth the big price tags, some not really. Well, this isn't gonna be on that $80 record steez. It will be affordable, but more importantly, dope 90's hip hop music.

Six 2 Six Shift Records' planned releases:

Constant Deviants - Feel That b/w Problem Child(also remix and instrumentals) 12"
Sparrow - Flows Of Death b/w Armageddon 12" (see cover art above, dope)
2 previously unreleased Constant Deviants LPs
1 previously unreleased Global Platoon LP
2 Previously unreleased Sparrow LPs

All from between 1994 and 1999. They really can't go wrong here.

If you aren't familiar with these artists, we have plenty of mp3s to get you acquainted here.
Constant Deviants is M.I. on the rhymes and DJ Cutt on the beats.
Global Platoon is M.I., Rome, Bosch, Fla Fla(of Sparrow), Illogic, and Supreme on the rhymes and boards.
Sparrow is Fla Fla rhyming and Dre(not the doc) on the beats.
Launchpad Records was founded by DJ Rockit.

Here's some previews to help get you up to date:

Constant Deviants - Problem Child (unreleased, will be on 12")

Constant Deviants - Competition Catch Speed Knots (released in 1996 on 12")

Sparrow - Flows Of Death (unreleased, will be on 12")

Sparrow - Physics (released in 1995 on 12")

Global Platoon - Maitreya (unreleased, will be on LP)

Global Platoon - Keep Your Day Job (released in 1997 on 12")

Bosch - Little Man (unreleased demo, may be on LP)

Bosch - Rizing Suns (released in 1997 on 12")

Here's 2 videos they recently dug out the vaults:

And one last summer time banger that will be the B-Side of the Problem Child 12":

"Feel That" and "Problem Child" were first played as demos on the Stretch and Bobbito show. If you're feeling any of this and want to see a proper release, either follow their blog here and leave some comments, or join their facebook vinyl petition group. Make sure you let them know that you want to see these and all the other treats they're holding onto, on vinyl or CD. These guys deserve some support in getting this stuff released. There's plenty more heaters, I just tried to pick 10 of my favs here and it wasn't easy.
There is dope new material in the works that we will try to keep you abreast with.

Mapping Out The Stretch And Bobbito Show (Demos: Juggaknots, Kool Keith, etc..)

We've finally decided to give this a go. It will be tough, no doubt. But if everybody who has any little bit of knowledge at all about the WKCR legacy, would add on and build with us, it is possible that we can map out the show's entire history.
We've got people who are willing to rip your tapes to mp3 and mail them back to you. The Big Sleep has set up a "Stretch And Bobbito" blog to archive and keep the list of shows, dates, and guests, all together in one place.

Here's a few treats that have surfaced since we started this mission:

Juggaknots - Genuine (demo?)

MF Doom - Gas Drawls (demo)

Rampage - Mad Niggas (demo)

LL Cool J - ?? Unreleased Unknown demo

Organized Konfusion - Why (OG Buckwild demo version)

Showtime - I Walk The Line (demo)

Aiello Wilson - 80 Proof (demo)

Kool Keith - Time Is Now (unreleased demo)[best quality on the internet]

Nas - The Life We Chose (DJ Eli Remix)

This is only a sampler of all the freshness that has surfaced so far.

Peace and thanks to everyone who has helped contribute so far, I hope I'm not forgetting anyone. Leave a comment if I forgot you:
The Big Sleep, aleph, Digital Stimulation, Andyman187, dj step one, RELM, jamo609, Howfresh, dirtywaters, serch4beatz, recogthereal, boogs, sen, sloppyseconds, Skeptic, Ho1ogramz, djkingflow, Dat_Triflin_Ass_Dude, megafresh, dubs, tuttsifruttsi, Kwestionmark, pradadon, Duddy, Roy Johnson

Most of those links are to really good cassette rip blogs you might want to check out.

Peace to Stretch and Bobbito.
Stretch may be coming through with a full, almost completely accurate, list of all the show dates and guests, soon. Hopefully some show rips, too. Stay tuned.

Dysfunkshunal - Mixed Emotions 96 Demo EP

Yes! More mid 90's Dysfunkshunal Fam. If you dig the Finsta/Dysfunkshunal/SOB/Bushwick
camp, then you will surely be happy with this. Keep in mind that they ARE demos, so the audio quality isn't polished. Personally, I like that dirty dank basement sound. And also, a few google searches revealed that these demos have been circulating for a couple of years, I just haven't heard them until now.

The joint for me is "Tear Your Kingdom Down". "In Life" is another one that would have gotten some underground airplay back in the day. And "Cause We Are" sounds like it would have fit perfect on the Dysfunkshunal/Finsta Bundy EP from 1997.

A1 Tear Your Kingdom Down
A2 8 Million Stories
A3 In Life
A4 Same Ole Same Ole
B1 Cause We Are
B2 Raw Like This
B3 Life And Death

Peep the snippets:

Thanks to Chopped Herring Records and Crazy DJ Bazarro for surfacing these.
I believe there are still copies left, but be prepared to spend more than a little here, but less then some
other "limited" release based labels.

Half A Mill - The Project Prophet (R.I.P.)

DJ Mike Nice recently uncovered this 1995 demo and brought it to the T.R.O.Y. forum fam.
Even if you have it already, download it again. I slowed it down a bit. For some reason, certain cassettes recorded at a slower rate which made the music sound a little faster than it was intended to sound.
Take a quick listen and start to understand what makes Half A Mil's mid 90's material so coveted-
Half A Mil - In The Projects (1995 demo)
[Download here or at the bottom of the page with everything in one folder.]

I remember having that and a few other Half A Mill demos from college radio, back in the day. I had a few of his legendary freestyles, too, but my WNYU tapes were always full of static because of their weak radio signal. I used to have the ill hook up for taping from 89.1. Hanger attached to the antenna with aluminum foil, and I had to hold the radio and point the antenna a certain way to get halfways decent reception. And still, right when you think you got it perfect, you hear some static start to creep in. And you either hope it doesn't get worse or start moving around just a little, hoping to get some clarity.
Anyway, I've probably listened to this demo over 30 times since Mike uploaded it. Shit is amazing. Lines like these put Half in the upper echolons of underground legends with the likes of the Natural Elements and Godfather Don:
"I'm from the projects, the pyramids
each room is a tomb, crack babies and boom,
we call jakes Legion of Doom, executioners, sorcerors,
modern day extortioners, they job is enforcing us..."

Moving right along, we're going to bring you a folder of freestyles, the Project Prophet mixtape, another unknown track and Half A Mill's self produced independent 12" release.

Half A Mill Productions 12" Vinyl Single
A1 - Any Day Can Be Ya Last (Vocal)
B1 - Any Day Can Be Ya Last (Instrumental)
B2 - Homicide Scene (Instrumental)

The Project Prophet Mixtape

And here's another Half A Mill track that I caught over at HipHopGiant.blogspot.com. It says that it's off of a bootleg EP. It's listed as Executioner's Song and the quality was really bassed out, where you couldn't make out the lyrics too well. I did my best to fix it up and make the lyrics audible. I have no clue when this song is from. A ballpark guess would be that this was recorded sometime between 1995 and 1998.

Half A Mill - Executioner's Song
[Download here or at bottom of page with everything in one folder]

Now, we're going to move right on into the radio freestyles that also helped secure Half A Mill's place in my personal underground legend hall of fame.In all, we have 12 separate freestyles. The first five were uploaded straight from WNYU cassettes by Nes over at DirtyWaters. There are some classic verses on these, don't sleep. There is also a freestyle that was separated from the Roots 30 minute session at WNYU, that was posted here. There's one from a DJ Lazy K mixtape from 1998, called Justo Allstars freestyle. There's also one that's apparently from an old Stretch& Bobbito show and one that I have no idea of it's origins. And another 3 with
with Nature, courtesy of Hustle The Block.

Half A Mill WNYU Freestyle 1996

Personally, I wasn't too pleased with his two albums, but alot of people were. I thought they were really lacking on the beat tip. His label didn't do him justice either, hardly anybody even knew the albums dropped when they did. Check one of them out at Steady Bloggin'.
For the record, if you didn't know, Half A Mill was found shot to death in his apartment in 2003.
RIP

The back up link doesn't have those 3 freestyles with Nature in it.

Thanks to dirtywaters, boogzthedon, itzmurda, Hip Hop Giant, Hustle The Block,
Dj Mike Nice, and K-Funkadelic.
Let's hope DJ Scratch properly releases that Half A Mill demo tape, already.

Wu-Tang Clan “After The Laughter Comes The Tears (Bootleg VLS)”

I swear, I'd do just about anything for the Wu to have this raw, hungry sound again. Don't even get me started on the most recent album, which is heads above the last few. But really, how can you call it a Wu-Tang album when it doesn't have any verses from GZA, Method Man, Masta Killa or even a spot from Cappadonna?

Anyways, I picked up this vinyl back in 1996, one of my first online purchases ever (from what used to be CD Europe.) Back then everything was straight text in a list form, so I had no idea what I'd receive. But the moment I put it on I knew there was something different about this track from my cd version. It took me several years to figure out that this is bootleg of a white label of the original vinyl that the Wu-Tang sold out of the trunk of their cars (so the story goes). That makes this track the demo version of "Tearz."

01 After The Laughter Comes The Tears (Vocal)
02 After The Laughter Comes The Tears (Instrumental)
03 After The Laughter Comes The Tears (Bonus Beat)

Stretch n Bobbito Treats: Shook Ones Pt.1 (Beatnuts Remix) + EPMD - Rampage Demo

"Someone offered me $500 for the acetate of the Beatnuts' remix of Mobb Deep 'Shook Ones Part 1'." - Stretch Armstrong
The above is quoted from this interview with Stretch Armstrong by DJ Eli over at the TurntableLab's blog. Check the interview here.

I had this on a cassette dubbed from the infamous Stretch and Bobbito show back in 94 and didn't realize it was a Beatnuts remix. I always figured it was a Stretch homemade remix or an acapella blended over a rare instrumental. Well, needless to say, I lost that tape probably within a month of taping it off the radio and recently is the first time I heard it since. Now, I'm not really a religious guy in any way at all. But I always thought that if there was a heaven, all my lost Stretch and Bob tapes would be there along with everything else I ever lost. Like all my WBAI, WNYU, Red Alert, Hank Love and Halfpint, and Awesome Two tapes. Plus all the shows I didn't have on tape. Not to mention every rare piece of vinyl ever pressed in the world. In this heaven, I would have unlimited copies of everything and my celestial neighbors would envy my godly collection. But in order for them to get a copy of anything[which I have unlimited amounts of anyway] they would have to offer me up 3 virgins of different ethnicities for me to have my way with. If heaven is anything like that at all, may the good lord strike me down before I finish this post.

Oh well. Time to stop dreaming and move it on along. Here's another excerpt from that Stretch interview:

"Ha- well you did manage to get me to give you the EPMD/LL Cool J "Rampage" demo. How ill is that? We used to play that on the air like it was no thing. For those of you that don't know it, the beat is different, and you hear the 2" stop, LL tell the engineer to take it back to the top, and then he spits rhymes that never made the album. It's a demo, but it's also a snapshot of the recording, hearing LL talk and experiment a little."

Yeah, I had this one on tape, too. I'm not sure if the one we have for you here is the entire version of that demo. But, hey, it's 3 minutes of some ill hip hop history. LL destroys it, as he was hungry again at that time trying to get back in the limelight. You'll notice that PMD spits the famous, "While you were banging on tables, I was banging Snow White," backwards. Instead, he says,"While I was banging on tables, you were banging Snow White."

After I stop typing, enjoy both the Shook Ones Beatnuts remix and the partial Rampage demo. Thanks go out to jamo609 and serch4beatz, both of the Philaflava T.R.O.Y. forum. The amount of rare Stretch and Bobbito shows and hard to find mid 90's mixtapes that these guys have been uploading is abundant. Don't sleep, that's only one thread out of hundreds where these got unearthed. Last week officially marked my first year as being a part of the Philaflava message boards, and I can't stress enough how conducive to my hip hop life it has been.
If you're not down, do yourself a solid and join up. You won't regret it. Just make sure you go directly to the T.R.O.Y. forum.

Mobb Deep - Shook Ones Pt.1 (Beatnuts Remix)

EPMD, LL Cool J - Rampage (Demo)

Thanks again go to jamo609 and serch4beatz.

DJ Premier WBLS Thunderstorm Vol.6 + Extras

Unless they are more to be released, here we have the last volume(vol.6) of the DJ Premier Thunderstorm WBLS radio show series. The selection of the tracks played on here are different from the ones from previous volumes; the main reason being that this show is from 1995(based on the tracklist) while the previous ones were aired in 1994. This is my personal favorite mix of all the thunderstorm shows that I've heard! For all you diggers, the show starts with a demo from a dope unsigned emcee called Rambo; I believe that the track is produced by Ski as his name is mentioned on the first break. I splitted that demo into a single file which you can download below this mix! Premier then mixes your favorites mid 90's hip hop tunes. Bahamadia even makes an appearance and talks about her then up&coming album Kollage.

Enjoy,

Tracklist
01. Rambo - Like That (Demo) Produced By Ski
02. Notorious B.I.G. - Who Shot Ya
03. Ol' Dirty Bastard - Brooklyn Zoo
04. Smif N Wessun - Stand Strong
05. Dr. Dre - Keep Their Heads Ringin
06. Half-A-Mil - Anyday Can Be Ya Last
07. Dark Skinned Assassin - Lock Shit Down
08. Keith Murray - Pay Per View
09. Jay-Z - In My Lifetime
10. Showbiz & A.G. - Next Level (Nyte Time Mix)
11. Big L - Put It On (L.G. Remix)
12. Heather B. - All Glocks Down
13. Lost Boyz - Lifestyles Of The Rich And Shameless

Poops Spotlight Pt.2 (WKCR,WNYU Demos)

A
couple of months ago, we re-introduced you to the incredible emcee who fell off the face of the rap game before he even really got started, Poops. Refer to this link, you won't be disappointed - Part 1
This time around we bring you four more ill appearances from the god; including cuts with Pumpkinhead, A Butta[Natural Elements], Automatic, and a freestyle session from an episode of the legendary Stretch & Bobbito show.

The first cut is a promo called Flushed that was a collaborative effort with Pumpkinhead and most likely produced by FB. This was originally aired on Stretch & Bobbito but re-aired on the 10th Planet radio show[co hosted by yours truly] on WPRB. I no longer have any of the original tapes of the 10th Planet, but am in the process of regaining a good amount of them on mp3 through a follower of the T.R.O.Y. blog. Sean g. responded in the comments of the original Poops post and we've been corresponding since. So, you can thank him for coming through with this one. Peep his blog out here, it's a pretty interesting hodge podge of cool shit worth checking out.

The second joint is a freestyle with Pumpkinhead live on the Stretch & Bobbito show. They go back and forth for few dope verses over some pretty ill beats that I still haven't identified. Unfortunately it's not the entire session, but it's a solid couple of verses you should enjoy. Thanks to Roy Johnson for uploading this at the T.R.O.Y. forum.

The last two joints were re-discovered by Nes over at the Dirtywaters blog. The first one is another solo banger of a demo called Suckas. I had this one on tape years ago and lost the tape within a week of having it. The other track, Lyrics, is another collabo featuring Automatic, A Butta, and once again Pumpkinhead. I believe this was originally aired on WNYU.

Do yourself a favor and don't sleep on any of these tracks. Poops was a goat in the making, in my opinion. It's a shame that he gave up so soon.
