Akbar - Non-Album Tracks

Akbar is seriously one of the most slept-on MCs in the history of hip hop, and easily one of my all-time favorite Chicago MCs. My first exposure to Ak was on a DJ PNS mixtape titled Chicago Rocks Volume 2. Ever since then, I always held him in a high regard, and I was constantly on the lookout for new material. I'd eventually track down his debut 12" with the Mental Giants, but it wouldn't come cheap.

Now, you're probably saying to yourself - how in the hell does this Akbar guy have three volumes worth of non-album tracks? Fortunately, I tuned in for the DJ 3rd Rail show one Sunday night back in early 2000, and to my surprise, Akbar was in the building. He was promoting his forthcoming album "Big Bang Boogie", and since he and DJ 3rd Rail were homies, he basically did a two hour live concert on the air, and it was fucking insane. I tuned in just in time, as I was able to record the entire thing. Make sure to check the audio samples.

I also got an ill Time Travel freestyle from the homie Kevin Beacham. Check out his myspace page for the ill Chicago rarities.

DJ PNS - Chicago Rocks Vol.3

Here's the last installment of the Chicago Rocks series. DJ PNS delivers a nice mix as usual. I don't really have something to say about this one, if you haven't check vol.1&2, you can peep them right here. Like I said before, the Chicago Rocks series are one of the most important mixtapes in hip-hop history and definitely the greatest to ever come out of Chicago! Enjoy this last volume of straight heat!

DJ PNS - Chicago Rocks Vol.2

Here's is the second installment of the Chicago Rocks mixtape series mixed by DJ PNS. If you enjoyed the first mixtape, you will like this one as much as it mostly features the same artists that were on the first tape. The last part of Side B is dedicated to the Molemen Crew, the last tracks are by Vakill & Rhymefest, Lumba of Rubberoom, & Judgemental (1994 NMS Champ). This mixtape is basically a collector mainly for the last spotlight, DJ PNS going at Kanye West in 97'. Kanye West supposebly was already stealing drums from other producers when he was unknown. I believe that it must had been a track from Grav's album. Nevertheless, the"Chicago Rocks" series is known for being one of the greatest mixtape in hip-hop history so it's a must that everybody needs to peep it! Enjoy!
