We typically don't cover books on T.R.O.Y., but this particular one stood out. The guest list is pretty impressive and I must say I'm a sucker for any rap books too. And you get a foreword by G. Rap? I'm reading that for sure! I plan on copping this but if any of you have already read How To Rap, definitely let us know what you think. --Philaflava
Out now is a book on MCing and creating Hip-Hop music told through the words of over 100 of Hip-Hop’s most acclaimed and successful artists. The book is called “How to Rap: The Art & Science of the Hip-Hop MC” and features a foreword by Kool G Rap, along with exclusive insights and guidance from the likes of Big Daddy Kane, Chuck D, Masta Ace, Mobb Deep, Clipse, A Tribe Called Quest, Styles P, Pharaohe Monch, Royce Da 5’9”, AZ, Boot Camp Clik, Immortal Technique, and many more.
They share the stories behind writing and recording their lyrics, as well as discussing the pros and cons of everything from writing lyrics in your head to doing punch-ins to tackling different types of subject matter.
It also includes the first complete breakdown of rap’s “flow”, allowing you to create tongue-twisting compound rhyme styles like Kool G Rap and Eminem, complex conversational flows like Nas and OC, the classic old school patterns of Melle Mel, and everything in between.
It has been called “a vital and vibrant expose of a much misunderstood art form” by Hip Hop Connection magazine, and dubcnn.com says “never before has the art form been broken down so well”.
